Sodium dibenzyldithiocarbamate, as a flotation agent, acts based on the specific affinity between its molecular structure and metal ions:
Ⅰ.Strong Chelation
The two sulfur atoms in the molecule can form stable, cyclic chelates with many transition metal ions and heavy metal ions. Such chelates are highly hydrophobic and readily attach to air bubbles.
Ⅱ.Selective Adsorption
Sodium dibenzyldithiocarbamate can adsorb selectively onto the surfaces of specific metal minerals via chemical adsorption or surface chemical reactions, while adsorbing less on gangue minerals such as quartz and calcite. This renders the target minerals hydrophobic, while gangue minerals remain hydrophilic.
Ⅲ.Hydrophobization
The benzyl group, as a relatively large hydrophobic aromatic group, significantly enhances the hydrophobicity of minerals, making them easier to be captured by air bubbles and floated.
